The Pension Heist holds Norway lead with an FDI of 19.7

Growth of the Soil opened last weekend with Unlock tickets, more than any other film in Norway.

  • Growth of the Soil rose 11.5 points and is now second.
  • Santa's Workshop has Unlock advance tickets before opening.
  • Clayface fell 45% from the previous weekend.

The Pension Heist remains Norway’s demand leader, but its cushion is tightening as Growth of the Soil surges in second place. Gunnbjørg Gunnarsdóttir’s local action comedy, from the director of Victoria Must Go and The Art of Fallism, has an FDI of 19.7 after falling 16.3 points in a week. The SEATmio Film Demand Index (FDI) measures a film’s share, in percent, of all tickets SEATmio tracks in Norway: tickets for the last 7 days of screenings plus advance tickets for screenings still to come. Led by Hege Schøyen, Anne Marie Ottersen and Anette Hoff, The Pension Heist sold Unlock tickets in the last 7 days and has Unlock advance tickets. All ticket counts are rounded SEATmio estimates.

Growth of the Soil is the week’s biggest mover. Hans Petter Moland’s drama, from the director of Cold Pursuit and A Conspiracy of Faith, climbed from third to second after overtaking Clayface and rose 11.5 points to an FDI of 17.6. Starring Herbert Nordrum and Asta Kamma August, its story of Isak and Inger building Sellanraa in a merciless landscape has drawn Unlock tickets in the last 7 days and Unlock advance tickets.

Local production is defining the top of the market. The Pension Heist turns ageism into a caper aimed at Norway’s Oil Fund, while Growth of the Soil gives the race a second homegrown title within reach of the lead. Another local film is arriving fast: Santa's Workshop, the family animation about a vanished Christmas list and a mysterious mitten, climbed from tenth to fourth, passing Clayface, Verity and Mysteriepakken among others. It opens November 6 with an FDI of 5.2 and Unlock advance tickets.

Advance demand also has global franchises in the frame. Avengers: Doomsday, from Joe Russo and Anthony Russo and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, is third with an FDI of 7.6. It opens December 16 and has Unlock advance tickets. Dune: Part Three has an FDI of 4.6 ahead of its December 15 release, while The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping climbed from 23rd to sixth after passing Clayface and Verity. The Panem prequel has an FDI of 4.4 and opens November 18.

The Pension Heist was second for the weekend with Unlock tickets after falling 29% from the previous weekend. Wildwood also opened, taking third place with Unlock tickets, and has since climbed from 24th to seventh. Clayface, second a week ago on the index, is now eighth with an FDI of 2.5 after falling 3.5 points, while Verity slipped from fourth to ninth with an FDI of 1.6.
