Avengers: Doomsday leads Philippines demand with 19.2

Never After Dark sold Unlock tickets last weekend as new horror releases swept the top five places.

  • Avengers: Doomsday leads the Philippines with an FDI of 19.2.
  • Never After Dark sold Unlock tickets in the last 7 days.
  • 2 Valid IDs fell 23.3 points after leading last week.

Avengers: Doomsday is now the film the Philippines most wants to see, even with its December 16 opening still 42 days away. Joe and Anthony Russo's science fiction adventure, whose earlier work includes Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, has an FDI of 19.2 and Unlock advance tickets. The SEATmio Film Demand Index (FDI) measures a film's share, in percent, of all tickets SEATmio tracks in the Philippines: tickets for the last 7 days of screenings plus advance tickets for future screenings.

The lead is over a horror-heavy field already in cinemas. Never After Dark, Dave Boyle's story of a traveling psychic facing a powerful entity in a remote house, climbed from sixth to second after overtaking 2 Valid IDs, Pee Mak, Always Yours, Never Mine, Street Fighter and Clayface. It has an FDI of 14.3, rose 10.4 points in a week and sold Unlock tickets in the last 7 days.

Sine Sindak 7 - VHS followed the same route, moving from seventh to third with an FDI of 11.7 after passing the same five titles. Cerita Lila, Bobby Prasetyo's horror film about a dead twin searching the afterlife for her separated sister, rose from eighth to fourth and scored 10.6. Ticket totals in this article are rounded SEATmio estimates.

The weekend told the same story for current play. Never After Dark sold the most tickets last weekend with Unlock, ahead of Sine Sindak 7 - VHS on Unlock and Cerita Lila on Unlock. All five of the weekend's leading films opened that frame, with Crawlers on Unlock and App the Horror on Unlock extending the October 28 wave.

Local production remains visible, but the top Filipino titles gave ground after leading last week. Ma-an Asuncion-Dagñalan's drama 2 Valid IDs, starring Pokwang, Joey Marquez and Zaijian Jaranilla, fell from first to fifth as its FDI dropped 23.3 points to 5.9. Victor Villanueva's Pee Mak, a comedy-romance-horror about a soldier returning home to a family hiding a terrible secret, slid from second to sixth with an FDI of 5.0.

Further down, Filipino films are still adding pockets of demand. He’s Dating a Boldstar rose from 21st to 14th with an FDI of 1.5, while Red Crown moved from 25th to 16th and scored 0.9. Always Yours, Never Mine, once third, fell to 26th with an FDI of 0.3.

The next 21 days bring event titles and a major franchise entry into the chase. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, from Francis Lawrence, whose earlier work includes The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, opens November 18 with an FDI of 1.4 and Unlock advance tickets. EXO PLANET #6 - EXhOrizon [dot] in CINEMAS opens November 8 with an FDI of 0.5, while local family drama Remember opens November 11 with an FDI of 0.1.
